BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao has added new variants to two models in its Bao series to target higher sales, following record sales last month.

At today’s fall product launch event, Fang Cheng Bao launched the long-range variants of the Bao 5 SUV (sport utility vehicle) and the five-seat options of the Bao 8 SUV.

Fang Cheng Bao currently offers four models: the Bao 5 and Bao 8 from the Bao series targeting the off-road market, and the Tai 3 and Tai 7 from the Tai series targeting the family car market.

The Bao 5 is a five-seat SUV, while the Bao 8 previously offered only six- and seven-seat configurations. Both the Tai 3 and Tai 7 are five-seat SUVs.

The Bao 5 Long Range comes in four variants starting at RMB 269,800 ($37,880), all with a CLTC battery range of 210 kilometers. Their combined CLTC range with a full tank and fully charged battery is 1,310 kilometers.

The older Bao 5 Smart Driving Edition, still available, has a CLTC battery range of 125 km and a combined CLTC range of 1,200 km with a full tank and full charge.

The SUV’s dimensions remain unchanged at 4,890 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, and 1,920 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.

The Bao 5 Long Range comes standard with a 47.8-kWh blade battery based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, up from the 31.8 kWh battery in the Bao 5 Smart Driving Edition.

It offers four trim levels starting at RMB 269,800, RMB 279,800, RMB 294,800, and RMB 329,800 respectively.

The two lower-priced variants utilize BYD’s God’s Eye C smart driving system, while the two higher-priced variants employ Huawei‘s Qiankun ADS 4 smart driving system.

The Bao 8 five-seat variant offers two options starting at RMB 379,800 and RMB 399,800.

Its dimensions are 5,195 mm long, 1,994 mm wide, and 1,905 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.

Both versions come standard with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4 smart driving system.

Like the six-seat and seven-seat variants, the five-seat Bao 8 features a 36.8 kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 125 kilometers. All Bao 8 variants achieve a combined CLTC range of 1,200 kilometers on a full tank and full charge.

Fang Cheng Bao sold a record 24,121 vehicles in September, surpassing the 20,000-unit mark for the first time with a 344.87 percent year-on-year increase, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The Tai 3 and Tai 7 were the top sellers last month with 8,902 and 8,128 units respectively. These models were launched in April and September this year.

The Bao 5 and Bao 8 sold 5,425 and 1,666 units respectively in September.

The Bao 5 was initially launched in November 2023 and received a Smart Driving Edition update in February this year. The Bao 8 was launched in November 2024.
