The concept of an “exhaust system” for an electric vehicle isn’t a new idea. Up until now, giving an electric car an exhaust meant outfitting it with a speaker to pump out tailpipe noises reminiscent to a gas-powered counterpart (looking at you, Dodge Charger Daytona). But what if we told you that one car company found an entirely different use for one? It turns out that Stellantis has found a far less controversial use for an EV exhaust. It’s not about style or sound, either—instead, it’s focusing entirely on safety. Now, I know what you’re thinking: How can an exhaust…
Ferrari will move forward with its EV plans in 2025 despite the electrification contraction at many low-volume luxury automakers. The first electric Ferrari is set to debut on Oct. 9. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna confirmed the date of the automaker’s first EV date during its Q4 and 2024 earnings results on Tuesday. Vigna called the upcoming EV the elettrica, which is Italian for electric. Elettrica is not expected to be the EV’s name. The EV will be one of six new Ferraris set to arrive in 2025, some of which might be electrified. Ferrari revealed during the sales recap that…
On Wednesday evening’s fourth-quarter 2024 earnings call, Tesla investors wanted to hear CEO Elon Musk’s plans for more affordable electric vehicles, how he’ll balance his role in the White House with running his company and whether he feels his public persona is hurting the brand. They didn’t really get any of that. What investors and analysts did get was more promises about robotaxis, artificial intelligence, robotaxi services and autonomy, much as they’ve heard for more than a decade now—except arguably bolder than ever. Musk and his team confirmed that Tesla plans to launch a robotaxi service in Austin this summer,…
Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy has ordered NHTSA to reconsider fuel economy standards DOT says higher fuel economy standards will lead to higher prices and therefore an older, less-safe fleet Previous Trump agencies said higher mpg brought cost reductions and safety improvements The Trump administration is wasting no time in attempting to roll back federal emissions standards, but it appears to be working against some of its own previous decisions in the process—even those made by the previous Trump administration. On Tuesday night, shortly after his confirmation, new Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy sent a letter to the NHTSA directing…
Tesla’s facelifted Model Y exceeds 70,000 orders in China in 5 days after launch, report says
The facelifted Model Y has been better accepted than the facelifted Model 3 in China, according to local media. Show cars of the facelifted Model Y have been gradually shipped to Tesla’s showrooms in China. (An image of the facelifted Model Y shared by Tesla’s vice president of external affairs Grace Tao on Weibo.) Tesla’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) facelifted Model Y has been better accepted than the facelifted Model 3 after its launch in China, with orders exceeding 70,000 units in the first five days after its launch, local media outlet Yicai said in a January 25 report, citing an insider.…
Cumulative deliveries of Onvo stood at 20,761 units at the end of December. Earlier this week, Nio provided more than 100,000 battery swap services in a single day. Onvo drivers surpassed 5,000 battery swap services in a single day on January 25, the Nio sub-brand announced today on Weibo. Two days ago, Nio announced that the company had provided more than 100,000…
The new Tesla Model Y is about to land in the U.S. And when it does, it comes with more range—and a bigger price tag, at least at first. Tesla updated its U.S. website on Thursday with the refreshed Model Y that recently went on sale in China. There’s only one trim listed on the website currently, the Long Range all-wheel drive christened as the “Launch Series.” The automaker said deliveries of the U.S.-spec version would begin in March at $59,990 before factoring in destination, taxes and incentives. That makes this trim about $12,000 more expensive than the equivalent trim…
Tesla has officially launched the new Model Y in North America and Europe after launching it in China earlier this month. The difference is that Tesla is now taking orders for both the older and newer versions of its best-selling electric SUV. That’s a unique launch for Tesla. I don’t remember the automaker doing that before. After launching the new Model Y design refresh in China two weeks ago, Tesla is now starting to take orders for the refresh in North America and Europe. But it looks like the design refresh is still a transitional in Tesla’s production as the…
