    • The Song L GT is a shooting brake-style pure electric vehicle with the same dimensions as the Song L EV, measuring 4,840 mm in length.
    • The Song family is BYD‘s best-selling lineup, with 59,026 units sold in June.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has filed for the Song L GT, a shooting brake-style vehicle that is expected to become the latest member of the popular Song family.

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the latest catalog of models set to be approved for sale yesterday, seeking public feedback, with the BYD Song L GT included.

The public may submit feedback from July 17 to 23. Inclusion in this catalog is the final major regulatory step for a model to be approved for sale in China.

The Song L GT has three pages in the filing, with product model numbers listed as BYD7007BEVA3, BYD7007BEVA4, and BYD7007BEVA5.

The shooting brake-style model is classified as a pure electric sedan in the MIIT catalog, despite BYD currently categorizing the Song L EV as a shooting brake SUV (sport utility vehicle).

The Song L GT measures 4,840 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm. These dimensions are identical to those of the Song L EV.

The vehicle’s curb weight is 2,120/2,225/2,380 kilograms, with a maximum speed of either 210 km/h or 225 km/h.

BYD7007BEVA3 and BYD7007BEVA4 are single-motor models, with peak motor power of 170 kW and 230 kW, respectively.

BYD7007BEVA5 is a dual-motor model, with a front motor peak power of 160 kW and a rear motor peak power of 230 kW.

The production locations for the Song L GT include BYD’s factories in Changsha, Hunan; Hefei, Anhui; Jinan, Shandong; Zhengzhou, Henan; Shenzhen, Guangdong; and Fuzhou, Jiangxi.

It uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by BYD’s battery uniy, FinDreams Battery.

The images in the filing suggest that LiDAR may be standard on the model, thereby enhancing its smart driving capabilities.

The BYD Song family currently includes the Song L EV, Song L DM-i, and Song Pro DM-i from the Dynasty series, as well as the Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-i from the Ocean series.

The all-electric Song L EV, first launched on December 15, 2023, is the second shooting brake-style model under BYD’s umbrella following the Denza N7.

In late August 2024, BYD launched the 2025 Song L EV at the Chengdu auto show. Its current starting price range is RMB 135,800 ($18,920) to RMB 249,800.

The naming of the Song L GT may suggest that the new model will place greater emphasis on sportiness compared to the Song L EV.

BYD has not yet released official information about the Song L GT.

BYD sold 382,585 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in June, a year-on-year increase of 11.98 percent and a month-on-month increase of 0.03 percent, according to data released earlier this month.

The Song family is BYD’s best-selling lineup, with 59,026 units sold in June, despite a year-on-year decrease of 15.94 percent and a month-on-month decrease of 21.25 percent. according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

The Song models in BYD’s Dynasty series sold 27,731 units in June, up 12.46 percent year-on-year but down 19.35 percent from May.

The Song models in the Ocean series sold 31,295 units in June, down 31.31 percent year-on-year and down 22.85 percent from May.

    ($1 = RMB 7.1789)

The hybrid BYD Seal 06 DM-i Touring Edition has a range of up to 2,000 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.
