The Yangwang U9, an all-electric supercar, went on sale on February 25 at a starting price of RMB 1.68 million ($231,560).
Yangwang, the luxury brand of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), will begin deliveries of the U9 next month, after launching the electric supercar model in February.
The Yangwang U9 is already in the production scheduling phase and will begin deliveries in late August, Yangwang said in a July 27 statement.
“Over the past few months, we have been pushing full steam ahead in all aspects of production, product testing, quality control, and service optimization, in an effort to deliver every Yangwang U9 in the shortest possible time and in the best possible condition to each and every customer,” the statement read.
Order holders can already check their vehicle’s estimated time for arriving at stores in the Yangwang mobile app, and in case of delays, Yangwang will compensate owners with 2,000 virtual credit points per day.
Customers who pay a deposit to order the Yangwang U9 on or before July 31 will be able to get a free paint protection film, according to the statement.
BYD officially launched the Yangwang brand on January 5, 2023, to target the ultra-luxury car market, when it gave the U8 as well as the U9 their debut.
The Yangwang U8 off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle), Yangwang’s first production vehicle, went on sale on September 20, 2023, with a starting price of RMB 1,098,000 ($151,340), and deliveries began on November 24 last year.
The Yangwang U9 went on sale on February 25 this year, with only one version available at a starting price of RMB 1.68 million ($231,560).
The 2-seater battery electric vehicle (BEV) model is powered by four electric motors, each with a peak power of 240 kW, for a total peak power of 960 kW.
Its powertrain delivers up to 1,306 Ps horsepower and 1,680 Nm of power output, allowing the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.36 seconds.
Yangwang delivered 418 vehicles in June, down 31.25 percent from 608 vehicles in May, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Cumulatively, Yangwang has delivered 7,501 vehicles since deliveries began last November.
