The Tener energy storage system has been integrated into Rolls-Royce’s mtuEnergyPack QG solution.
Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL, SHE: 300750) has entered into a strategic partnership with Rolls-Royce to bring its Tener energy storage system to the European Union and the United Kingdom.
The Tener energy storage system, which has a high level of safety and long life, has been integrated into Rolls-Royce’s mtuEnergyPack QG solution, CATL said today.
The two companies have partnered on engineering, procurement and construction projects to jointly provide energy management services, according to the company.
Previously, CATL and Rolls-Royce have partnered on several projects in the European Union for the EnerOne energy storage product line and have signed several project partnerships for the EnerC+ product line.
CATL launched the Tener system on April 9, saying it is the world’s first mass-producible energy storage system with 0 degradation in 5 years.
The Tener is a standard 20-foot containerized energy storage system equipped with CATL’s energy storage-specific L-series long-life lithium iron phosphate cells.
The energy storage system has an energy density of 430 Wh/L and a total capacity of 6.25 MWh, which CATL said in April was the highest in the world.
The Tener has a cycle life of more than 15,000 cycles, which is 1.7 times the current mainstream level, and will not decay in the first five years of its 20-year life expectancy, according to CATL.
As a grid-scale energy storage system, Tener can integrate renewable energy sources into the grid, improving grid stability and reliability, the company said today.
This integrated solution will help customers perform grid management and trading services across the UK and EU grids, accelerating the energy transition to a more sustainable energy infrastructure in the UK and EU region, CATL said.
Founded in 1906, Rolls-Royce is a British engine company and Europe’s largest aero-engine manufacturer, with a portfolio that includes aero-engines and marine engines.
At the end of 2023, CATL signed a long-term supply agreement with Rolls-Royce for over 10 GWh.
CATL’s intelligent diagnostic platform and battery management system (BMS) were previously used in Rolls-Royce power systems’ mtu EnergetIQ automation solution and its mtu Go digital platform.
