Deepal has launched the S05 compact SUV, its latest model after launching the S07 SUV on July 25, available in BEV and EREV variants.
Deepal, the new energy vehicle (NEV) arm of Changan Automobile (SHE: 000625), has launched the S05 compact SUV (sport utility vehicle), its second new model in the past three months.
Deepal rolled out the S05 at an event in Chongqing, where it is headquartered, on October 20 at a starting price of RMB 119,900 ($16,880) and offers battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options.
Deliveries of the model began at launch and Deepal has promised to compensate customers for deliveries made beyond the expected dates.
Deepal is offering four BEV variants and two EREV variants for the S05, similar to some of the company’s other models, to target the preference of car buyers in the electrification transition for EVs that can refuel.
The Deepal S05 BEV’s four variants start at RMB 119,900, RMB 125,900, RMB 125,900, RMB 135,900 and RMB 145,900 respectively.
Its two EREV variants start at RMB 139,900 and RMB 149,900 respectively.
The compact SUV measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,880 mm.
The Deepal S05 BEV is powered by a single electric motor with a maximum power of 175 kW and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
The all-electric version comes standard with a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 56.12 kWh and offers a CLTC range of 510 km.
The Deepal S05 EREV is powered by a 1.5 L displacement engine with a maximum system power of 160 kW and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
The two EREV variants come standard with a lithium iron phosphate battery with a capacity of 27.28 kWh, offering a CLTC pure electric range of 200 kilometers. At full fuel and full charge, the Deepal S05 EREV has a combined range of 1,234 kilometers.
Deepal, Changan’s NEV brand announced in 2022, officially launched its first model, the SL03, on July 25, 2022, as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3.
Prior to the launch of the S05, Deepal rolled out the S07 SUV on July 25 as its next-generation global strategic model, with a starting price range of RMB 149,900 yuan in China.
Deepal delivered 22,709 vehicles in September, up 30.74 percent year-on-year and up 12.81 percent from August, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
In the January-September period, Deepal delivered 143,419 vehicles, up 65.03 percent year-on-year.
