IM Motors, SAIC Motor’s (SHA: 600104) electric vehicle (EV) unit, has started pre-sales of the LS6 mid to large-size SUV (sport utility vehicle), adding extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants to its existing battery electric vehicle (BEV) options.

IM Motors unveiled the updated LS6 at an event today, with a pre-sales starting price of RMB 209,900 ($29,230). The official launch will take place on September 10.

The length, width, and height of this model are 4,937 mm, 1,988 mm, and 1,671 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm.

The updated LS6 is available in two BEV variants during the pre-sales: Pro and Ultra, with starting prices of RMB 209,900 and RMB 279,900, respectively.

The Pro version is equipped with a 76-kWh battery pack and has a CLTC range of 650 kilometers. It is a rear-wheel drive model that can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.4 seconds.

The Ultra version is equipped with a 103-kWh battery pack and has a CLTC range of 750 kilometers. It is an all-wheel drive model that can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.48 seconds.

The EREV variants also come in two versions — Pro and Max — with pre-sales starting prices of RMB 214,900 and RMB 239,900, respectively.

These two EREV variants are equipped with IM Motors’ extended-range system named Hengxing, which was unveiled on August 1. The system aims to provide longer battery range than conventional EREV models by using larger battery packs.

The updated LS6 is the first IM Motors model to feature the Hengxing system, equipped with battery packs that are even larger than many BEV models. The packs, known as the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery, are supplied by CATL (SHE: 300750).

The Pro version of the EREV variant is equipped with a 52-kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC battery range of 370 kilometers. With a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, the range is 1,400 kilometers.

The Max version of the EREV variant is equipped with a 66-kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC battery range of 450 kilometers. With a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, the range is 1,502 kilometers.

Both EREV variants are rear-wheel drive models and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds.

The battery packs of the updated LS6 EREV variant are even larger than that of many BEV models.

The entry-level Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y currently sold in China is equipped with a battery pack with a capacity of only 62.5 kWh and a CLTC range of 593 km.

The LS6 was initially launched in China on October 12, 2023, with the last update on September 26, 2024, offering only BEV variants.

    ($1 = RMB 7.1799)

IM Motors claims its extended-range system achieves three times the range of the Model Y using a similar battery capacity.
