Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) will begin pre-sales of the Lafa 5 in China on November 7, and the electric hatchback is poised to become one of the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker’s main models in the coming years.
The company announced the plan today on Weibo, saying an event will commence at 7:00 pm Beijing time that evening.
The Lafa 5 made its global debut at the IAA Mobility in Munich, Germany, in early September, when pre-orders were open for the model in China without pricing details.
Leapmotor previously said the Lafa 5 would be officially launched in China in the fourth quarter, with deliveries of the hatchback commencing in the first half of 2026. Global sales for the model would begin in 2026.
The November 7 event is expected to reveal the Lafa 5’s pre-sales pricing details.
The car is a sporty hatchback tuned by Stellantis’ European team, Leapmotor previously said. Its goal is for the Lafa 5 to become the “Dream Car” for young people worldwide.
Previously disclosed specifications indicate the Lafa 5 measures 4,430 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735 mm.
The model will position Leapmotor within the fiercely competitive electric hatchback segment, competing against vehicles including the Volkswagen ID.3, SAIC MG4, BYD Dolphin, and Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) Firefly EV.
Its dimensions surpass those of the Firefly EV, Firefly’s sole current model, which measures 4,003 mm in length, 1,781 mm in width, and 1,557 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,615 mm.
The Lafa 5 is available only in a single-motor configuration, delivering a peak power output of 160 kW (215 horsepower). It supports optional LiDAR equipment.
It utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by CATL (SHE: 300750), CALB, Gotion High-tech, and Zenergy. Range specifications for the battery pack remain undisclosed.
Leapmotor’s current lineup in China includes the T03, B10, B01, C01, C10, C11, and C16. The T03, B01, and B10 are offered only as battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while the other models also feature extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants.
The company delivered 66,657 vehicles in September, marking its fifth consecutive month of record-high deliveries, according to data released earlier this month.
From January to September, Leapmotor delivered 395,516 vehicles, representing a year-on-year increase of 128.81 percent.
