Nio’s (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Firefly has begun ramping up marketing for its first model as its launch nears.

Firefly announced on Weibo today that its first model will have five body color options, and provided English names — lavender, plum, sand, marble, and graphite.

Specifically, lavender represents purple, plum represents green, sand represents beige, marble represents white, and graphite represents gray.

“Firefly will be officially launched on April 19. We look forward to meeting you and embarking on a colorful journey together,” the brand wrote on Weibo.

Nio officially launched the Firefly brand on Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024, to challenge BMW’s Mini and Mercedes-Benz’s Smart, with an eye on the global market.

Firefly’s first model, which shares the sub-brand’s name, is positioned as a high-end boutique car.

Pre-sales for the compact battery electric vehicle (BEV) model began in China on Nio Day 2024 at a price of RMB 148,800 yuan ($20,510), and it would be officially launched in April, Nio said at the time.

On March 18, Firefly’s president Daniel Jin said on the brand’s mobile app that Firefly’s first model would be officially launched on April 19.

The model is equipped with a 42.1-kWh battery pack and has a CLTC range of 420 kilometers.

In the early days of the launch of Firefly’s first model, Nio will establish demonstration battery swap stations in cities with high user density, Jin said on March 18.

In the future, the model will be connected to Nio’s fifth-generation battery swap stations, thus integrating into Nio’s battery swap system, Jin said.

Earlier on March 18, Nio announced that it had reached an agreement with its battery supplier CATL (SHE: 300750) to jointly build the world’s largest battery swap service network.

CATL’s Choco-Swap technology standards and network will be introduced into Firefly’s subsequent new models, according to Nio’s statement.

Nio Firefly has been targeting global markets from day 1, says president

The Firefly project was set up with a view to the global markets, not just a single market, Firefly president said.
