In the fourth quarter, Tesla sold 169,935 vehicles in China, accounting for 35 percent of its global deliveries of 484,507 vehicles.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) sold 94,139 China-made vehicles in December, of which 18,334 were exported, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The US electric vehicle (EV) maker has a plant in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 and Model Y, both for deliveries to local customers and as an export hub.

The latest figures from the CPCA mean that Tesla sold 75,805 vehicles in China in December, up 80.81 percent year-on-year and up 15.73 percent from November.

Tesla’s Shanghai factory saw a 32.18 percent year-on-year increase in exports in December, up 8.31 percent from November.

Tesla’s pattern is to produce cars for export in the first half of the quarter and for the local market in the second half, it previously said.

Of the 94,139 China-made vehicles Tesla sold in December, including exports, 62,158 were Model Y and 31,981 were Model 3, according to the CPCA.

China’s retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs), including battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), were a record 945,000 units in December, according to the CPCA. This means that Tesla’s share of China’s NEV market was 8.02 percent last month, up from 7.79 percent in November.

China’s retail sales of BEVs in December were 598,000 units and PHEVs were 347,000 units, according to the CPCA. This means that Tesla’s share of the Chinese BEV market was 12.68 percent in December, up from 11.87 percent in November.

In the fourth quarter, Tesla sold 169,935 vehicles in China, accounting for 35 percent of its global deliveries of 484,507, data compiled by CnEVPost showed. That’s up 39.73 percent year-on-year and up 21.71 percent from the third quarter.

For the full year 2023, Tesla sold 603,664 vehicles in China, up 37.27 percent year-on-year.

Tesla’s Shanghai factory exported 344,078 vehicles in 2023, up 26.92 percent year-on-year, data compiled by CnEVPost showed.
