Chinese autonomous driving technology company WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD) and US ride-hailing giant Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) have expanded their partnership to offer robotaxi service in additional cities in international markets.
WeRide announced today that the two companies will further expand their strategic partnership to include 15 new cities worldwide over the next five years, including Europe and the Middle East.
Following the launch of the self-driving robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi and soon in Dubai, the two companies have committed to expanding the robotaxi partnership to several new cities each year outside of the US and China.
In these cities, WeRide’s robotaxi service will be offered through the Uber app, with Uber handling fleet operations.
The expansion is in line with WeRide’s global growth strategy — to make self-driving solutions more affordable and accessible to users around the world, said Han Xu, founder and CEO of the Chinese startup.

Founded in 2017, WeRide is one of the first companies in China to focus on smart driving solutions. On October 25 last year, the company went public on Nasdaq.
In September 2024, WeRide entered into a partnership with Uber to advance the use of its self-driving vehicles on the Uber platform.
In December 2024, the companies started robotaxi operating services in Abu Dhabi, with a fleet size that is set to reach 50 units by mid-2025.
Last month, WeRide and Uber expanded their partnership to Dubai.
WeRide currently develops, tests and operates autonomous vehicles in 30 cities in 10 countries around the world.
The company is the only one in the world to have autonomous driving test licenses in five countries at the same time — China, the UAE, Singapore, France, and the US, it said.
