Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) announced today that its new G7 SUV (sport utility vehicle) will be the first to feature Huawei’s HUD (head-up display) solution.
HUDs are common, but creating a good AR-HUD is challenging, Xpeng noted on Weibo. AR stands for augmented reality.
The solution developed in collaboration with Huawei offers the industry’s most advanced HUD hardware and software capabilities, the company said.
It will introduce the solution at an event starting at 2:30 pm Beijing time today.
Xpeng hinted on Weibo yesterday that one of its new models would adopt Huawei’s HUD solution, marking a rare collaboration between the two companies.
The solution allows the vehicle’s front windshield to display information such as remaining range, assisted driving software status, speed, and navigation details, according to a poster.
Xpeng previewed the G7 in January, saying it could be the most competitive SUV in the RMB 250,000 ($34,810) price range this year.
The G7 measures 4,892 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm, according to a January filing.
These dimensions are slightly larger than those of Tesla‘s (NASDAQ: TSLA) updated Model Y, which measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
Xpeng currently offers the G6 and G9 SUV models, both of which received upgrades in March.
Its other models include the Mona M03, P7+, P7i sedans, and the X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle).

The Xpeng G7 has the same wheelbase as Tesla’s facelifted Model Y, with close and slightly larger overall dimensions. It is powered by LFP batteries supplied by CALB.
