BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) today officially launched its new all-electric sedan e7, which is expected to be one of the car-buying options for the shared mobility market.

The BYD e7 is available in three variants with starting prices of RMB 103,800 ($14,400), RMB 109,800 and RMB 115,800 respectively.

The company is offering a limited-time RMB 5,000 discount for customers who purchase the car before June 30, bringing the starting price down to RMB 98,800 yuan.

BYD-branded passenger cars include the Dynasty series, whose models are mainly named after historical Chinese dynasties, and the Ocean series, whose models are mainly named after sea creatures and ships.

The BYD e7 is not part of the Dynasty or Ocean series, but is displayed on BYD’s corporate customer-facing website, which focuses on cabs, ride-hailing cars, and business vehicles.

BYD hasn’t emphasized the potential customers the e7 is targeting, probably because it wants it to have as much market space as possible.

The BYD e7 is a mid-sized sedan with a length, width and height of 4,780 mm, 1,900 mm and 1,515 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

It is powered by a single electric motor with a peak power of 100 kW and supports a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

The BYD e7’s battery pack comes in 48 kWh and 57.6 kWh options, capable of delivering CLTC ranges of 450 kilometers and 520 kilometers, respectively.

The last model update for the e-series was in March 2024, when BYD launched the e2 Glory Edition.

BYD ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by combustion engines in March 2022, switching to a focus on plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The company sold 380,089 NEVs in April, up 21.34 percent year-on-year and up 0.71 percent from March, according to data it released earlier this month.

That included 372,615 passenger NEVs and 7,474 commercial NEVs.

BYD e2 sold 612 units in April, down 66.26 percent year-on-year but up 17.92 percent from March.

    ($1 = RMB 7.2095)

BYD aims to sell 5.5 million cars in 2025, report says

BYD’s car sales target for 2025 is 5.5 million units, including more than 800,000 in overseas markets, according to local media.
