    China Jan EV battery installations: CATL share 49.41%, BYD 18.58%

    CATL‘s share of China’s EV battery market increased by 4.93 percentage points in January from December, while BYD‘s share decreased by 4.37 percentage points.

    CATL’s share of China’s electric vehicle (EV) battery market increased in January from December, while BYD’s decreased.

    In January, China’s power battery installations amounted to 32.3 GWh, up 100.2 percent year-on-year, but down 32.6 percent from December, according to data released today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

    CATL’s power battery installed capacity in January was 15.96 GWh, ranking first with a 49.41 percent share, up 4.93 percentage points from December’s 44.48 percent share.

    BYD’s power battery installed capacity in January was 6 GWh, ranking second with an 18.58 percent share, down 4.37 percentage points from December’s 22.95 percent.

    BYD, whose batteries are now mainly supplied to itself, sold 201,493 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in January, up 33.14 percent year-on-year but down 40.92 percent from December, according to data it released earlier this month.

    CALB had 1.75 GWh of power batteries installed in January, ranking third with a 5.42 percent share, down from 6.39 percent in December.

    Gotion High-tech ranked fourth in January with 1.56 GWh installed and a 4.83 percent share. In December, Gotion ranked fifth.

    China’s Li-ion ternary battery installed capacity was 12.6 GWh in January, accounting for 39 percent of the total, up 131.9 percent year-on-year, but down 23.9 percent from December.

    CATL, Svolt Energy, CALB were the top three of the ternary battery installed capacity in January, with shares of 64.44 percent, 7.92 percent, and 7.5 percent respectively.

    Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery installed volume was 19.7 GWh, accounting for 60.9 percent of the total installed volume, an increase of 84.2 percent year-on-year, but a decrease of 37.1 percent from December.

    In the LFP battery market, CATL, BYD, and Gotion High-tech had the highest installed volume in January, with shares of 39.81 percent, 30.48 percent, and 7 percent, respectively.
