Li Auto says it sold 8,600 cars last week

    • After suspending the sharing of weekly insurance registration data last week in response to CAAM’s call, Li Auto has resumed publishing the data, but only its own.
    • Li Auto’s sales last week increased 8.86 percent from the previous week’s 7,900 units.

After suspending the sharing of weekly insurance registration data last week in response to a call from an industry association, Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) today resumed publishing the data, but only its own.

Li Auto sold 8,600 vehicles in the 12th week of 2025, March 17-23, the company announced on Weibo today.

Li Auto did not mention more, but weekly sales are measured by insurance registrations in China.

The company’s sales last week increased 8.86 percent from the previous week’s 7,900 vehicles, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

Li Auto had routinely shared the weekly sales of major electric vehicle (EV) makers in ranking lists every Tuesday for the past two years.

Last Tuesday, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released an initiative calling for the halt of the publication of weekly sales charts.

Li Auto stopped sharing any weekly data last week. Its sharing today means that the company may continue to share the figure for the days to come, but only for itself.

Last week, CAAM advocated that companies release their own operating data on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis, in line with the operating cycle of the automotive industry.

The source of the weekly sales rankings is unknown, which disrupts the industry order and exacerbates vicious competition, CAAM said.

CAAM also called on third-party organizations and media to respond to the initiative, stop publishing weekly sales rankings, and guide the public to rationally view market fluctuations.

Li Auto has used the weekly rankings to strengthen its position as a leader among new carmakers in the minds of potential customers, in order to gain greater consumer confidence and drive sales.

But the move has sparked protests from some of its peers, who are often under public pressure due to the highly volatile weekly data.
