BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) unveiled its vehicle intelligence strategy last night, starting to bring smart driving capabilities to lower-priced affordable models.
At the start of yesterday’s much-anticipated event, the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker shared a video showing what kind of challenges it can accomplish with its smart driving capabilities.
In the video, a Yangwang U9 electric supercar equipped with the “God’s Eye” intelligent driving system successfully completed an autonomous drive at the Hunan Zhuzhou International Circuit.
After demonstrating the Yangwang U9’s ability to drive autonomously on the track during the daytime, BYD said that this is not the limit of the “God’s Eye” system’s capabilities.
In the video, the Yangwang U9 was then shown driving autonomously on the track at night, bringing into reality what can only be seen in video games.
BYD introduced its vehicle intelligence strategy yesterday, dividing the “God’s Eye” system into three branches based on their capabilities.
The top-of-the-line God’s Eye A system is the DiPilot 600, which uses three LiDARs and is mainly used by ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang.
The God’s Eye B system is DiPilot 300, which uses one LiDAR and is mainly used in the Denza brand and some BYD premium cars.
The smart driving solution for the God’s Eye C system is DiPilot 100, which doesn’t have any LiDAR and instead uses a camera vision solution for BYD’s affordable models.
BYD updated 21 models in a sweeping move yesterday, including not only high-end models but also those under RMB 100,000 ($13,680), bringing them free smart driving systems.
The Yangwang U9 was launched on February 25, 2024, and the 2-seater model starts at RMB 1.68 million, the highest-priced under BYD’s umbrella so far.
On January 21, Yangwang announced that cumulative deliveries of the U9 reached 100 units.
