    Global EV battery market share in Jan-Jul 2025: CATL 37.5%, BYD 17.8%

    • CATL and BYD collectively installed 326.4 GWh of EV batteries in January-July 2025, accounting for 55.3 percent of the global total.
    • Six of the world’s top ten EV battery manufacturers are Chinese companies.

    Global EV battery market share in Jan-Jul 2025: CATL 37.5%, BYD 17.8%

    During January-July, CATL (SHE: 300750) and BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) continued to dominate the global electric vehicle (EV) battery market, collectively holding over half the share.

    Global EV battery installations totaled 590.7 GWh from January to July, a 35.3 percent increase from 436.7 GWh during the same period last year, according to data released by South Korean market research firm SNE Research on September 2.

    CATL’s EV battery installations reached 221.4 GWh from January to July, up 34.0 percent from 165.2 GWh in the same period last year.

    The Chinese battery giant maintained its global leadership with a 37.5 percent market share during this period, remaining the only supplier exceeding 30 percent market share worldwide.

    This figure is lower than its 37.8 percent share in January-July 2024 and also below its 37.9 percent share in January-June 2025.

    BYD’s EV battery installations reached 105.0 GWh in January-July, a 52.4 percent increase from 68.9 GWh during the same period last year.

    The company ranked second with a 17.8 percent share in January-July, up from 15.8 percent in January-July 2024 and flat from January-June 2025.

    LG Energy Solution’s battery installations reached 56.1 GWh in January-July, a 9.0 percent year-on-year increase.

    The South Korean company maintained its third-place position with a 9.5 percent market share from January to July, down from 11.8 percent during the same period last year but up from 9.4 percent in the first half of 2025.

    China’s CALB ranked fourth with a 4.4 percent share, South Korea’s SK On was fifth with 4.2 percent, and Japan’s Panasonic came in sixth with 3.6 percent.

    China’s Gotion High-tech, South Korea’s Samsung SDI, China’s Eve Energy, and Svolt Energy ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth respectively, with market shares of 3.6 percent, 3.0 percent, 2.9 percent, and 2.6 percent during January-July.


    China Jul EV battery installations: CATL share 41.40%, BYD 21.18%

    CATL’s share in July decreased by 2.28 percentage points compared to June, while BYD’s share decreased by 0.29 percentage points, as smaller players saw growth.
